[Yonhap News 18.12.09] Small Wind Power Exemption from Wind Energy Measurement ... Remote instrumentation allowed

Date : 2018.12.13

In the future, wind turbines will be exempted from measurement obligation to measure the wind speed and direction pattern of wind turbines in the future.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Energy announced on the 9th that it will revise the relevant notification to exempt from the obligation to measure wind power for small wind turbines with a capacity of 30 kW or less.

At present, all wind farmers must measure the wind resource of the project area for at least one year before applying for a power plant license. For the purposes of real estate speculation, it is a provision to prevent preemption of possible areas.

However, the small wind turbine industry, which is burdened with the time and cost of measuring the windfall, has requested the revision, saying that it is difficult to implement the business by applying the same standards as those of medium and large companies.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Industry exempted from the obligation to measure wind energy only with wind turbines with a total installed capacity of less than 1,000 kW consisting of small wind turbines with a capacity of 30 kW or less.

According to the revision of this notice, it is also possible to measure the wind speed using the remote sensing instrument such as the Raida wind turbine industry.

Until now, we have mainly used stationary measuring towers that measure the wind speed in a mechanical manner, but the industry has asked us to improve the relevant system to enable remote measurement.
